Does your diet affect if you get acne or not?
There has been a lot of debate whether your diet does determine if you get acne or not, some people say its all hormonal but now people are coming around to the idea that it might be down to what we eat and by changing what we eat we can get rid of our acne. It has been said that 90% of acne sufferers get acne due to diet and the other 10% is down to hormones. Acne appears when our hair follicles get clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, the bacteria living on the skin then attacks the pore causing redness and inflammation. If your diet is full of dairy and high fat foods you are more likely to suffer from acne. People who come from countries where the main diets are low in fat and eat a lot of fresh vegetables usually have little to no acne sufferers.
The reasons why high fats and dairy cause acne is because these foods create a sluggish digestive system making foods that are ingested metabolize more slowly than other foods which help the metabolism. When the digestive system becomes sluggish toxins get introduced into your system and the way some of the toxins try to escape the body is through the skin. The good news is that it is very easy to correct just by changing your diet to include foods such as vegetables, oily fish 3 times a week, beans and lentils and whole grain. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as much as possible and replace them with drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Exercise can also help create a more healthy body and reduce acne. Exercise also helps with stress which is a common reason why people get acne.
