Acne, if nothing else, is not an uncommon ailment. It is a harmless yet aggravating condition that many of us struggle with. There are many fallacies about acne as well. Hopefully you will be able to distinguish facts from fiction by the end of this article.

Fact: Oil secreted by the skin causes acne.

Yes, oil that is secreted by the sebaceous gland is one of the major components of acne. The sebaceous glands are found in the skin of all mammals.

Fact: Blocked pores cause acne.

Yes, the pores in the skin are blocked by excessive secretions of oil and dead skin cells. The bacteria Propionibacterium acnes begin to grow in the blocked pores. These bacteria sometimes cause people to have an allergic reaction. Finally acne is formed as a response to inflammation in the body caused by all these factors.

Fiction: Improper hygiene causes acne.

Even though we are aware that blocked pores cause acne, it cannot be prevented by better hygiene. The blocking or unblocking of pores cannot be done by all the scrubbing in the world. Blockages are well hidden deep below the skin’s surface.

Fiction: Diet causes acne.

Even if you were to change your diet to exclude oilier foods, it is not likely to help since acne is caused by excessive secretions of oil. These secretions of oil are controlled by fluctuations in hormones and are not diet related.

Fact: Hormones are related to acne.

Hormones largely control the causes of acne. Puberty is one of those times that everyone goes through a big hormonal change. Excessive secretions of oil are caused by hormones and hormonal changes. Hormones also affect other factors that are related to the causes of acne.

Fact: Medications cause acne.

Yes, evidence does show that certain medications and chemicals cause or trigger acne flare ups. Anabolic steroids are one of these chemicals. Any medication that contains high amounts of chlorine compounds or halogens are more likely to cause breakouts.

And, a unique method to Get Rid of Acne once and for all can be found on my site. Click here to find out how YOU can start re-balancing your body today and start the path to lasting clear skin.

br
Back acne starts the same way most of other types of acne start. It starts by pores being clogged by having an excess of oil and dead skin cells become trapped there. This then attracts bacteria which leads to acne. The reason back acne is tough to get rid of is because the skin is thicker and is harder to treat. Some factors that cause acne is stress, hormones, and genetics.

1. Wash Regularly — You should use anti-bacterial soap and wash twice a day. Be careful not to over wash because this can lead to irritated skin and it drying out. You should also shower after you do anything that caused you to sweat excessively. When sweat gets trapped against your skin it can mix with oils and clog your pores even more so this will make your back acne much worst.

2. Exfoliate Daily to Weekly — Since skin on your back is thicker than the skin on your face exfoliating daily to weekly is okay. You should try different types of exfoliates such as washcloths, loofahs, and brushes. When trying these watch to see if your acne becomes worst or extremely irritated. When you scrub try using a sugar based solution because it will be milder on your skin. You should reduce the times you exfoliate if you notice any bad reactions.

3. Use Medication — Medications you use to get rid of back acne is a medicated cream or gel like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Do not use both of these products because the can have bad results if mixed. If you use a benzoyl peroxide product it is best to use one with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. This dose has helped many people get rid of their acne. The problem is that medication does not always help everyone get rid of their acne.

Mineral makeup may offer new hope for acne sufferers. Because mineral makeup has several unique qualities not offered in any other makeup product that make it ideal for helping cure acne.
To understand how mineral makeup can cure your acne it is necissary to look at the seven causes of acne:
1. Genetics. Sadly, nothing can change your genetics. If your parents had acne as teenagers there is a good chance that you will too.
2. Hormones. During adolesence, hormones called androgens become active and stimulate oil glands in your skin, increasing oil production. This, in turn, clogs pores, causing pimples and blackheads.
3. Stress. Although stress doesn’t actually cause acne, it can add to the problem by affecting hormones.
4. Diet. Many times what you eat has been shown to cause acne. Most of the time acne is an adverse reaction your body has to a food allergy.
5. Washing your face too often. This can irritate the skin making acne worse.
6. Medications. Many medications can cause acne or make an existing condition worse. Read labels or talk to your paharmacist to find out if acne is a side effect.
7. Using greasy skin care products and oily cosmetics. Most makeup falls into this category.
While these are the casuse of acne it is important to remember that acne is ultimately a result of bacteria growing in clogged pores. Bacteria is organic and thus cannot grow or multiply without the presence of water. This is where mineral makeup plays an almost magical role in curing acne.
Mineral makeup is made of natural minerals derived from the earth, these minerals are not only inorganic but they are also extremely resistant to water. They actually act as a shield on your face keeping bacteria feeding moisture away from your pores. Mineral makeup is not soluable in water so even if you put water directly on your face the minerals will not be absorbed and the water cannot pass through.
Mineral makeup does not clog pores either. Because it is so finely milled during production, the granules are much smaller than your pores. This not only prevents acne from forming, but makes the makeup extremely easy to blend into the skin with a very flawless look and conceals problem areas very well. If you suffer from a break out the finely milled minerals are very effective as disguising it.
Because of these and other unique qualities mineral makeup is known througout the world as the skin care makeup and recommended to acne sufferers by dermatologists. Ultimately, it does not matter what the cause of your acne is, without water to feed the bacteria, and something to clog the pores and hold that moisture in acne cannot form or worsen. If you suffer from acne, mineral makeup may end up being your best friend.

Acne causes are multifactorial. The exact cause of acne has never been pinpointed, and it is believed that several interrelated factors can cause acne. Perhaps it is because we often are unable to determine the root cause of acne in individuals that the statistics of this skin disease is so shocking.
The causes of adult acne and causes of cystic acne are particulary difficult to determine.
17 million people in America alone have acne.
If you are between 12 and 25, you are among the 85% of people who have acne.
25% of men and 50% of women get acne during their adult lives.
The following are some of the external and internal factors that have been linked to acne in some way.
External Contributors to Acne
Makeup and skin care products
Comedogenic skin care products can cause irritation or make you break out. These include any products that clog oil ducts. Look for non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic products, but be aware these products can still make you break out.
Occupation
Depending on where you work, it is possible that your work environment can cause acne. Such environments include manufacturing or construction facilities where you may come in contact with chemicals or polluting agents that cling to the skin.
Too much sun
Evidence shows that another that exposure to sun rays is also one of many acne causes. This can even cause acne a few months after exposure.
Climate
Humidity can cause moisture in follicle cells to swell up. On the flip side, dry air can create thick sebum inside follicle cells. Both extremes can ultimately cause acne.
Picking and squeezing pimples
Touching your face or using your fingers to pick or squeeze pimples is one of the simpler acne causes that are more from habit. Picking pushes bacteria deeper into the skin cells or spread the bacteria already beneath the surface of the skin.
Sweat
Sweat trapped in by your clothing creates an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Friction caused by leaning on or rubbing the skin or the pressure of bike helmets, backpacks, or tight collars can contribute to or worsen acne.
Internal Contributors to Acne
Bacteria
Bacteria that typically live on the skin are a contributor to acne. The bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes are responsible for causing acne. These bacteria create enzymes that dissolve the oil in the skin, and irritate the skin causing inflammation.
Sebum production
Generally, there is a relationship between the amount of sebum produced and the severity of acne. The largest sebaceous glands are located on the face, neck, chest, upper back and upper arms.
Follicle growth
Sometimes follicle walls will grow abnormally and this can cause acne. As well, increased growth of cells can interfere with the follicles and form a plug. This plug gets bigger until it bursts and spreads bacteria on the surface of the skin.
Hormones
Many acne causes come from hormonal change or imbalance. There are hormonal changes during stress, menstruation, pregnancy, stopping/starting birth control pills, menopause, and hormonal disorders.
Androgens: Androgens are produced by the adrenal glands is one of the internal acne causes that stimulate oil glands and oil production. Increased androgen levels leads to more acne.
Stress: Although stress doesn’t directly cause acne, it will aggravate it. This is because stress leads to increased androgen levels, which then affect your sebaceous glands.
Diet
Dermatologists still aren’t 100% sure if what we eat affects acne. There exists an ongoing debate among experts about the role of food.
Prescription drugs and steroids
Certain drugs, including lithium, barbiturates, and steroids such as for muscle building (androgens) are known to cause acne.
Genetics
If your parents had acne, or one of them, there’s a chance you will inherit their complexion. It is now believed that acne can run in the family, but the specific genetic factor has not been discovered.
As you can see, there are many acne causes that can be both independent or interrelated. It is almost impossible to separate out interlinking activities that contribute to acne. Being aware of these acne causes can help you minimize breakouts.

Genetics Factors
Genetics factors play a significant role in acne formation, although we do not know which genes exactly are involved. It is likely that combination of genes from both parents are responsible.
It is common to see that several members in the same family have acne. If one or both parents have severe acne, then the child is also at risk of developing severe acne.
Picking and Squeezing
It is common to see that acne sufferers pick at the acne lesions and squeeze out the retained sebaceous deposits. And it is a common mistaken impression that this will unblock the pore and speed up healing. In fact, the squeezing cause unnecessary damage to the skin, bacteria is introduced to the wound and causes inflammation. The result is often darker, deeper and more permanent scars.
Stress
Acne get worse when the person suffers from stress, worry, tension and anxiety. For example, it has been observe that during examination period, the acne condition get worse for student suffers. This is likely cause by hormones and neuroactive substances produced during stress and significantly influence on acne formation.
Premenstrual Flares
Some women complain of acne flares just before their menses. And these premenstrual flares affect up to 40% of women with acne. It is likely due to the hormone fluctuation over the menstrual cycle. The flares often resolve quickly after the menses end.
Creams and Medicaments
Certains creams and medicaments may make acne worse. Topical steroids which is often prescribed for treating eczema may resulted to outbreak of acne is they are used excessively and inappropriately. You can identify this type of acne by its look – multiple red, inflamed monomorphic papules and pustules.
Drugs
Some drugs aggravate or even cause acne. These include:
- corticosteroids which is taken orally or by injections
- lithium for treating manic depressive illness
- testosterone pills and injection which are used by professional athletes and body builders to increase muscle mass
- danazol which is given to women for endometriosis which is the growth of tissue from the uterus in parts of the body other than the uterus
Cosmetics
For a small group of cosmetics users, they can develop cosmetic acne in the form of side effect. Cosmetic acne is usually present as small, raised whiteheads or small inflamed paules and pustules over the face the cosmetics are applied. Often, women with cosmetic acne are caught in a vicious cycle – the more acne outbreak they have, the more cosmetics up they use to cover it up which only leads to worsening of the condition.
Climate
Acne tends to get worse in hot humid climates and work environment e.g. steam rooms and kitchen. We do not know why heat and humidity have such an aggravating effect but we know is that the outer layer of skin swells tremendously under humid conditions. The pressure from the swelling could block the opening of the pilo-sebaceous unit and cause acne to develop.
Occupations
Jobs that involve with certain chemicals may worsen acne. These chemicals include:
- insoluble cutting oils that are use in engineering manufacturing industries
- crude petroleum in the oil refining industry
- diesel oil that is used in motor mechanics
- halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons that are use in industries manufacturing conductors and insulators and
- insecticides, fungicides and herbicides
