We do have a good idea about what does and does not cause it so let’s take a look at these most popular myths. Find out the truth about acne and its common myths.
Myth #1 – Dirt or having dirty skin is related to acne.
Having clean skin does have its benefits; however acne not caused by dirt. It’s due to a buildup of dead skin cells and sebum and is formed under the skin’s surface. Follicles are not clogged by dirt.
Myth #2 – Acne can be cleared up by continually washing your face.
Preventing acne is not from having clean skin. Washing your face continually can actually make your skin worse. Future breakouts are more likely if you wash your face all the time, stripping it of all oil.
Myth #3 – Only teenagers are prone to acne.
9 out of 10 teenagers do experience acne; however 1 in 4 adults get acne too. Teenagers get acne more often because there is a connection between acne and hormones. Fluctuations in hormone levels have been shown to be directly connected to acne.
Myth #4 – Acne is caused by stress.
Stress, surprisingly, is not a big factor in acne breakouts. Scientific evidence has shown this. For many years it was believed that bouts of acne were caused by stress. Thankfully, this also is not true.

Over the years, people still believe a lot of myths that are being associated with Acne. Despite new information that are being given to us and the new treatments that are now available to us, these myths still prevails. The following are some of the common Acne myths that we must not entertain at all.
Chocolates can cause us Acne – For years, eating chocolates are and still is considered as one of acnes causes. While a person whose diet is consisted of eating chocolates only is not good at all (nor is eating only a certain type of food), truly this is one of those myths that needs to be busted by now. Eating a bar or tons of chocolates will not cause you to have acne. Acne and chocolates are not related whatsoever. Acne is caused by hormonal imbalance and not by taking tons and tons of chocolates. Eating healthy and nutritious food is indeed good for our skins, and again, enjoying chocolate wont cause you to have acne breakouts.
Teenagers are the only ones affected with Acne- Most teenagers are prone to get acne more than adults; this is especially true to those who is at the stage of puberty. But then again, acne in adults is not rare, in fact it is common. It affects both men and women. Though, women tend to get one while theyre pregnant due to hormonal imbalance. Women also are prone to getting one due to their monthly period. So acne for teenagers only is a myth that is not so true.
Dirty skin can cause Acne – This is one famous myth that needs to be busted/dispelled. Said myth can also be dangerous, as people tend to use chemicals and soaps on their skin just for them to thoroughly clean their skins. We all know that proper hygiene is essential for one to have a healthy and beautiful skin, but not washing our faces will cause us acne. Acne is an internal problem that can be seen externally.
