Many people have long suspected that there is a connection between acne and stress. Well, research has proven that contention to be true especially among adults. Acne is not just a condition that teenagers deal with. Millions of adults suffer from it as well. In adults, one of the most common causes is stress. Stress exacerbates acne because it can cause changes in ones hormones. When a person is feeling overwhelmed, stress hormones are released in greater amounts and can lead to all types of physical and mental disorders such as a weight gain, acne and even high blood pressure.
Now there is some debate about whether or not acne is caused by stress or is made worst by it. Theres not much agreement on this fact. However, most people do agree that stress does affect acne. Stress can cause the body to create more oil which can become clogged in the pores and lead to acne breakouts.
Stress is not the only reason that acne develops or worsens. If a person is trying to figure out if their breakouts are stress related, they should note when they breakout and what is going on their life during this time. This will give them some idea of the cause. This is very important because once an individual or ones doctor is able to figure out what is causing the acne or what is worsening it, they can correctly treat it. For example, a doctor may suggest that a person go to counseling, cut back on their activities or journal, in an effort to help reduce their stress. They may prescribe some type of acne medication but will also be sure to include some type of stress management exercises into the patients plan of action. This may be able to make a huge difference.
Stress can be very damaging to the body and can cause very serious ailments and illnesses to develop. It can also affect a persons looks. Individuals who are constantly stressed out tend to age faster and may develop acne. To avoid this, it is very important that an individual find an outlet for their stress and aggressively attempt to manage it. Journaling, speaking with friends, spending time with family, cutting back on ones schedule, going to church, praying, etc., can all make a huge difference in ones stress levels and may help individuals improve their acne.

More and more people are looking to their home pantry or for things that they can do themselves to have acne free skin. Here are four home remedies that I’ve personally used to help my acne problems through the years. Diet, sleep, toothpaste, and garlic are inexpensive (or free) and readily available to help you have clearer skin in no time.
#1. First we’ll look at diet. There are many controversies floating around as to whether what we eat affects our skin. One group of people say no while one group of people says yes. I am of the school that says of course what we eat affects our skin. How could it not? Our body is made up of and runs on what we put into our mouths. If what we put into our bodies is not healthy then those toxins are going to find their way out of your body not only by natural elimination but also by bursting out of your skin in the form of acne and blackheads.
Carbohydrates and white sugar are one of the biggest culprits. These two food sources can activate the hormones that tell your sebaceous glands to product more oil. It is believed by scientists and nutritionists that high carbohydrate foods and sugar trigger a sharp increase in insulin production that in turn triggers hormonal increases leading to oily skin and clogged pores. So you will want to especially stay away from these two food sources.
#2. Sleep and good quality rest are very important for acne free skin. Our body begins to naturally heal when we get good quality rest. Sleep is the time when the body is given a chance to slow down and prioritize on rejuvenating. This is the time when your body can start healing. So, what this means is if we’re doing things to externally to clear up our skin then internally, during sleep, our body is working from the inside to clear up our skin.
#3. Toothpaste. Toothpaste you ask? This is a little secret that my great-grandmother taught me many years ago. For this you need a true tooth paste and preferably without fluoride. The toothpaste can act as a drying agent which will dry the pimple out. Natural or organic toothpaste really work the best.
#4. Garlic. Garlic works to eliminate acne because it contains active sulfur/sulphur. Sulfur/sulphur has been used to treat problem skins and acne for decades because acts as a keratolytic (shedding of the outer layer of the skin) and also has germicidal action. Garlic is considered to be one of the best natural antibiotics so it does well at helping to clear up acne.
Being acne free doesn’t have to cost a fortune and many times things we have in our homes or actions we can take ourselves can work great at effectively treating acne. So the next time your plagued with an unwanted blemish why not try some of these tactics first?

First Acne effects almost 90% of the adolescent population. So you are not alone. Also it is not normally anything you have done, eaten or the way you wash. So you do not need to feel guilty. So let’s look at some facts
1) Junk food causes acne. Wrong! Pizza, chocolate, coke or any other junk food has never been proven to cause this. That does not mean to say you should carry on eating all this junk food. A sensible diet is good for everyone, and helps you feel better.
2) Acne is caused by dirt. Wrong! Actually washing your face more than twice a day or scrubbing your face, with pads or flannels will make it worse. Acne treatment needs mild gentle soap and to rinse thoroughly.
3) Sweat will clear my pores. Wrong! A mixture of body sweat and oils can aggravate certain situations for some acne sufferers. Shower immediately after any sport and wear loose clothing.
4) Women’s Make-up can cause Acne. Wrong! No scientific evidence has been found to verify this. Most products today are mad to stop the clogging of the pores. So this is not the problem. Do not wear make-up though when exercising as this can irritate the problem.
5) Stress Causes Acne. Wrong! To an extent. Stress can trigger off some hormones, which could aggravate the situation. But it is not the cause.
6) You Cannot Cure Acne. But you can treat it! There are a lot of good acne treatments on the market. See your doctor.
7) Sun can help. Wrong! It can in time worsen the situation in time. A tan might give the effect that your skin looks better, but it certainly will do it no good.
Spot Acne Treatment Works. Wrong! The whole face has to be treated. Most of the problems are formed under the skin. So treating the top of the spot is not going to do anything.
9) You Will Outgrow It. Wrong! Acne is treatable. Don’t wait see a doctor ASAP.
10) It’s Only Cosmetic. Well Yes. It is not serious. But it can effect you, your self-esteem, and your confidence. So get it treated and become acne free.
